Are the mattress support slats welded to the frame or does each slat need to be screwed?

Answer : Neither. The metal bars are flattened on both ends and insert into slots in the frame and are locked in place with plastic tabs and spacers.

Answer : This bed wobbles a little when someone climbs into the top bunk but it's very sturdy. I've caught my grandson (68lbs) swinging on the bottom rail of the top bunk and doing pull ups and the bed moved just a little.

Answer : Neither. There are slots that each slat (each with a matching divet) slide in to. once locked in place there is a small plastic piece placed behind it to secure it. Works well and very secure!

Answer : Each slat is intersted into the frame and secured by a plastic durable wedge to keep in it's place. This was easy to do.

Answer : Each slot is placed individually but it is very sturdy.

Answer : They slide in and lock into place. No screws.

Answer : The slats are not welded and need to be assembled.

Answer : each slat needs to be installed.

Does this bed sways side to side.

Is this bed sturdy or does it sways?

Answer : yes

Answer : This bed is very sturdy. if you want an extra protection of layer you can always add a latch from the bed to the wall just so you can have a peace of mind but it is definitely not necessary.

Answer : it is not sturdy

Answer : This bed is super sturdy, and we have had no problem with swaying, even when my son is playing on the top bunk. My husband made sure he really tightened all the screws tight, though. That probably makes a difference.

Answer : sturdy, 110 lb daughter climbed to top bunk and said there was a little movement but not much

Answer : It doesn't. It can't, it's held together by the top and bottom bunks. And also the top rail guards.

Answer : If you shake it vigorously, yes. I place this bed in a corner so I feel it's sturdier this way. I imagine if I place in against a side wall, it will not be that sturdy. It's a tall bed.

what tools are needed to assemble the bed?

Answer : They provide an alan wrench, but I would suggest a small power driver with the appropriate size bit, at least to get the screws started. Then you can torque them down tight with the wrench. Goes MUCH faster this way.

Answer : Only one (hex wrench) and it comes with the bed's hardware

Answer : You do not need any additional tools. It comes with its own tool and it's simple to use.

Answer : None, it comes with its own to set up.

Answer : It already comes with an allen wrench included and that is all that you need.

Answer : A small star wrench is provided, but we had a longer one here that worked better. That's it!

Answer : Just the hex key that comes included.

Very good product for the price! I was looking for a bunk bed that gave enough space in between the top and bottom bunk so that my daughter would be able to sit up and watch tv or read a book. This bed was perfect for my girls as they are growing into there teen years and didn't want something too girly.

Great product

My boys absolutely LOVE this bunk bed. We looked at lots of places, and found that the metal bunk beads were either too cheap looking, boring in design, or did not have enough space between the top and bottom bunk for one to sit up and read. This bunk bed solved all those problems, was a dream to put together (1.5 hours), is sturdy, a great price, and received in two days. Can't say enough about it. Definitely try this one out!

My boys just love this bed. It looks great in their room and is nice and sturdy. I would recommend that you only use a 6" mattress for the top bunk so that there is plenty of space between the mattress and the top of the guard rail. My husband put the bed together with my two boys in less than 45 minutes. Highly recommend this bed,

Great bed for my 7 yr. old! It wasn't too difficult to assemble, but really needs 2 people to do it. Looks really nice in his small room, too.

Nice look, not very sturdy

We bought these bunk beds for our beach house that we rent. It took my very skilled, airplane mechanic father-in-law almost three hours to put two sets of these bunk beds together. They are very rickety once they are up and move even when my 30 and 40 pound children are just simply climbing the ladder to get to the top. The top bunk is extremely difficult to make up. I tried standing on the sides, but it was just too rickety and the metal hurt my feet to stand for too long trying to put sheets on, and I am only 135 lbs. I am very worried about how these will fair long term in a rental home. I am thinking of sending them back and paying a little extra for something I found that is solid wood and much sturdier. If this is all you can afford, you have smaller children and you can be sure they will use them safely, then they aren't that bad. But if you have older and/or bigger kids or you too were thinking of them for a rental, I would really not buy these.

love these but not for low ceilings

First things first we have a large family 9 children so they are a bargain for multiple children. Sad thing is they are extremely tall so not for someone who has low ceilings like us. My husband had to cut the legs off to make them fit in the rooms. Great head space on bottom bunk with or without legs.. Husband had to chop off the legs because no head room for top bunk. My husband took off 9" so the bottom bunk now sets on the floor sad because when put up for the first time they were sturdy and strong. They only took my husband 30 mins to put together and another 30 to chop all the legs off. They come in thousands of parts but are easy to put together. Overall I like them only time will tell how strong they are..

excellent for young kids

Slat placement is great. Only disappointment was picture in catalog showed ladder on left when viewing from then end, when facing the where ladder is (one on each end) it is on viewer right side. would like to see double the ladder steps as it is a stretch for my 2 and 4 year old grand kids.

Great Value, Easy Assembly

We bought this for our two kids (4 & 6). They love it! It was the easiest assembly of any product I have ever bought like this. It included the tool and all hardware. My husband and I spent about an hour putting it together, but it was so simple. It is taller than average bunk beds so it works well for us in our room with 9 foot ceilings, any shorter and it may be too tall. I chose this one because of the ladder that did not stick out into the room.\nMy only complaints would be that the bed is a very flat gray color rather than a silver (pictured metallic) which is fine - just not what I would have expected. And, it is not super sturdy, may not work for them as teenagers, but fantastic for them now.

Not a sturdy bed.

We were not happy with this bed and have returned it. It was pretty easy to put together but not very sturdy at all. The bed slats sunk down when you got on it and it swayed a lot when you climbed up. Also, if you ever want to take it down (if you were moving or something), you might as well throw it away. All the plastic spacers break and a couple of the screws striped out when putting together. Nice looking bed, but not sturdy. I didn't want my kids sleeping on it.

I bought this because of the reviews were positive but after putting it together I found it was not sturdy at all I had a hard time getting on top of bed with the shaking the opening isn't big enough to go through not only that the plastic clips that go on the slats for the bed were not only breaking as I put them on [ I wasn't using much force] in fear of breaking them that didn't work they were hard to snap on Took less time to take apart it's going back

great bunk bed for your dollar

this is a great bunk bed easy to assemble and feels quite durable. I was impressed with the packaging and I was able to get it home with the seats down and trunk open. My only concern is that when sold as a "bundle" i was under the assumption that it came with 2 mattresses as it is a bunk bed! there is no selection for adding an additional mattress quantity in the bundle. This was disappointing. I would recommend this product and the site to store process with walmart.

Great bunk bed, kill the squeaks w/ some silicon

We got this bunk bed for our sons ages 5 and 9. Liked the clean lines and fact that the ladders are embedded and on the sides. Didn't hurt that it was pretty cheap too. Mine didn't come with directions but they're easily found online. It takes a while to put together (maybe 2 hours) but only because there are lots of bolts to tighten (and if you're me re-tighten a few times).\n\nOnce together it is pretty squeaky. I'm not sure that can entirely be helped given the metal construction. But after one night on the top bunk my older son complained that the noise kept him awake. So I went out and purchased some silicon glue that I applied around all of the connections that aren't joined by a bolt. That includes the ladders and upper side rails. Clear silicone pretty much disappears against the gray metal so aesthetically there's no impact.\n\nIt worked like a charm and the bed is now very quiet. The real test was my son who has slept on it great ever since.

wonderful bunkbed set

I purchased this for my 11 yr.old son, it was easy to put together, I did it myself in just a couple of hours, and it looks like a very expensive bed but actually the price was low, I would recommend this to any one who is looking to buy a sturdy and affordable bunk set

I was very happy and surprised with this bed. For the price was expecting something a little cheaper. but is an excellent bunk bed. my daughters love it, was easy for me to put together by myself. only took a couple of hours. only complaint i have about the bed is when both girls are in bed and moving around it is a little squeeky. but bed is very sturdy

Great value, Easy assembly, sturdy, attractive

Grandgirls loved it! Really cute, easy to put together, and solidly built. Only problem was the rungs on the ladder hurt their feet. Covered them with foam pipe insulation for padding and it worked great.

Highly Recomended

This bed went together very well and although its not perfect it is very well made and easy to assemble with just a 4mm Allen driver. Yes the top bunk is a little high for a 8 ft ceiling but its not really an issue as my child is only up there to sleep. The bottom bunk is great for them to sit and hang out because its got the head room to sit up straight. It looks great and I like that you can get up on both sides giving you the choice to place it on either side of the room. Mine doesn't squeak at all because I tightened up all the screws. Its not going to be 100% solid when you climb up duh...but hey if it has to be for you I thought of just anchoring two straps to the wall and it would be rock solid, if that's what you desire. Overall the girls are very happy and really have not complained at all and believe me they would definitely voice there opinions and there opinions were that they like it very much. I would definitely recommend this bed to anyone looking to save room and make an improvement to the look, very stylish color and design.

Very Disapointing

First of all, the DAY I purchased it, it became a rollback and was selling for $20 cheaper, but of course, I had to pay the full price. Secondly, it came in a million pieces! It could have been somewhat assembled, but we had to assemble the entire thing. Thirdly, the color in life is darker than the picture, so it looks like a pewter or charcoal, which I don't care, just saying. Fourthly, some of the pieces came bent and smashed in so badly, to the point that my husband had to use a hammer to bang them out or straighten them enough to be screwed together. Once it was together, which took 2 adults about 2 1/2 hours to assemble, it is pretty sturdy and I obviously feel comfortable to put my 10 year old and my six year old on it. I even feel comfortable letting my 2 year old sit on the bottom bed. My 180 pound husband even climbed on it, but we built it, so we feel pretty confident. Now, the last thing that I did not realize about this particular model, is this bed DOES NOT separate into two beds. This is only a bunk bed for eternity. Had I known that, I probably would have gone with a different model bed. I was just being honest, I hope this helps someone.

Easy to set up, great looking, tall bunk bed.

After searching for a while, I decided on this bed because of the steel look. I'm a single mom with a 9 year old boy. I ordered it online and it arrived in less than 1 week. I don't have a car so having it shipped and delivered to my door was necessary.\n\nI assembled the bed mostly by myself. I figured that if I can read, I can follow the directions. It was not complicated at all. All the parts are clearly labelled in letters, as are the screws. I set up each side slowly and carefully by myself. The only time I needed help was when I was connecting the 2 tall sides with the top horizontal bar. I needed my son to hold straight the one side while I held on to the other side. Once that was done, the rest was easy.\n\nIt took us 2 nights to do it. After 1 hr and 45 mins of tightening the Allen wrench the first night, I was tired. My fingers hurt. But my son was able to sleep on the bottom bunk immediately. He was very happy to help put in each of the crossbars that support the mattress. I told him, Look! This is like Lego and you get to sleep on it!\n\nThe only time I had to undo the screws was the part that asked for washers to go before inserting the screws on top exterior. I tightened the screw before realizing I had to put on the washers first.\n\nThe other part I didn't notice till it was too late was that each of the individual crossbar has a top and a bottom. The bottom has 2 holes while the top doesn't. It doesn't change the functionality of the bunk bed but if you are a perfectionist, it might bother you if you failed like I did to put all the cross bars the same way up.\n\nMy son loves the bunk bed and sleeps on top and on the bottom interchangeably. I haven't been up because I don't feel that it can support my weight (150lb). Also, I don't think the ladder opening is wide enough for me to get in and out of the top bunk easily. Bear in mind that this is a tall bed, so if your ceiling is 96 inches like mine, you won't have much clearance once on top. Further, because of its height, it's not that sturdy. You can shake the bed easily. But this doesn't bother me. I don't intend for any adult to sleep on top, just little ones. I imagine once he turns 14 or 15, I'd be shopping for a different bed.\n\nOne other thing that bothers me just a little is the lack of a solid headboard. A pillow can slide out on the bottom bunk on either side unless you place the bunk bed in a corner. Would be great if they added just one more vertical bar to keep the pillow in.\n\nOtherwise, I'd say this is all in all, great purchase.

Decent bunk bed for the price

We have 2 bunk beds in our home, both from Walmart. One is this one and the other is The Elite bunk bed.\n\nhttp://www.walmart.com/ip/Twin-over-Twin-Bunk-Bed/14262225#Item+Description\n\nThis bed, The Your Zone looks more geometric and modern.\n\nHaving a metal bunk bed comes with pros and cons, pros: light, nice metal look\nand cons: the metal makes lots of noise when your kids decide to tap their flashlights against the railing, hard to put together if the instructions are bad.\n\nThis one is more wobbly than the Elite bed. This bed is not so great if you have average to low ceilings, I wish I would have paid more attention to the height in the descrpition of the item.\nWe enjoy the bed and would recommend it. Check the parts very carefully, both beds we received came with either a missing part or a broken one that we had to wait for a replacement for, a bit of a hassle but not too surprising.

Awesome

This bunk bed was very easy to put together. About two hours by-myself on living room floor. Instructions would have been great, but not a whole lot of room for error as theirs only three sizes of bolts & they only fit in the correct holes- so no biggie. (The picture shows a brace on back of bed- but luckly there wasnt one because it would have simply gotten in the way.) Heavy duty steel, very stable, nice unit, and the fact that it has a ladder on both sides makes it great for any bedroom. :-)

I purchased this for my 11 yr.old son, it was easy to put together, I did it myself in just a couple of hours, and it looks like a very expensive bed but actually the price was low, I would recommend this to any one who is looking to buy a sturdy and affordable bunk set

The real test was my son who has slept on it great ever since.

great bunk bed for your dollar

this is a great bunk bed easy to assemble and feels quite durable.

And, it is not super sturdy, may not work for them as teenagers, but fantastic for them now.

excellent for young kids

Slat placement is great. Only disappointment was picture in catalog showed ladder on left when viewing from then end, when facing the where ladder is (one on each end) it is on viewer right side. would like to see double the ladder steps as it is a stretch for my 2 and 4 year old grand kids.

love these but not for low ceilings

Very good product for the price! I was looking for a bunk bed that gave enough space in between the top and bottom bunk so that my daughter would be able to sit up and watch tv or read a book. This bed was perfect for my girls as they are growing into there teen years and didn't want something too girly.
