Will I need to purchase a modem as well with this product?

Answer : yes or have an existing one

Answer : Yes

Answer : Yes. This is not a modem also.

Answer : Yes. I have Charter router is included in bill, not a separate rental.

Answer : Yes this would need a modem.

Answer : well it depends normally you have 3 types of internet the first is cable. where you have a coaxial cable running to a box the modem supplied by your internet company. so the modem is provided normally by your internet supplier and you pay a fee to rent it every month it is normally included in your internet bill. so what you would do is the modem normally only has a few ethernet jacks but the router plugs into the modem to give you wifi and all the other stuff the router offers. the example above also goes with the other types of internet like dsl and satellite so the simple answer is no you do not need to buy a modem with this but you do need to keep your existing modem. it goes like this internet company provides the modem you run a ethernet cable from the modem to the router. now you have wifi for the entire house if you have a desktop near the router it is best to use a ethernet cable to plug the desktop into the router for more reliable connection. i hope i have helped answer your question some but if you do not currently have internet at all then you will want to call the internet provider for your area to get internet installed and they will provide a modem. also for any modem questions it is always best to call your internet provider.

Is this supported by Time Warner cable?

Answer : Yes. This router is widely supported by all ISP's.

Answer : Yes

Answer : Not sure. I had a linksys wrt54g that worked great on Comcast for 7 years but always needed to be reset when i went with Charter. Up to 10 times a day. I bought local in case I needed to take it back.

Answer : yes a router will work with any type of internet service provider. the router simply plugs into the modem by a ethernet cord and gives you wifi and multiple ethernet jacks. now if by support you mean they can answer question about the router then no but as far as will it work with time warner cable then yes. you will run the supplied cable with this router to the modem and then follow the instructions.

Answer : Yes, this router will work with any of the major ISPs; modems are the devices that accept cable inputs, routers just split up the signal.

How many devices can this handle?

I currently have 5 computer, 3 phones, and 2 tvs all on wifi. Will this router handle the load of all these wifi devices? both tvs stream movies, 3 computers are used for gaming (guild wars2, Warcraft, world of tanks) usually at the same time.

Answer : haha nice question. looking at the specs of the router i don't see why not. i think the real question is if your internet speed can keep up with all the gaming. the phones and the tv don't really use much internet apart from streaming video. so that leaves us with just the 3 computer aspect and world of tanks which i have played is mostly installed on your harddrive and only sends data as of where you are and stuff so with this router i would say yes yes yes it should handle your gaming needs. and if not just take it back lol its walmart. :) i wish i had this router i would love it. mainly to use as a wireless home server. but i got dumb dsl internet :( so ill wait till google fiber comes to my area if ever. happy gaming.

Answer : This can support more than 12 devices.

Answer : This can support 12+ devices. It's extremely fast and easy to set up.

EVERYTHING the Reviewers said!

Wal-Mart Reviewers hit the nail on the head on this one. After four routers and still dissatisfied with download speed and dead zones, I turned to the reviewers' remarks to find the best router I could without getting a second mortgage. Netgear is the best brand, as many reviewers declared, so I concentrated on that brand, and it didn't take me long to see that this Nighthawk received the most consistently great reviews. Based on that only, I ordered it online, picked it up the same day, took it out of the box, followed the boldly printed, easy directions, and my kids were downloading YouTube videos within five minutes, all at record speeds for our house. And we have an old house with the kids' "wing" very far away from my office (location of the router), separated by a vinyl-covered asbestos wall... you can imagine how hard it is to get good wi-fi reception. However, they've got it now (even though I placed a Netgear wi-fi extender in a room between us, just to be safe). This router somehow knew to connect with DirecTV and the kids' computers almost automatically, and we did very little to finish setting them up. Like I said, less than five minutes, start to finish, and we have about six wi-fi devices in the house. Could not be more pleased with this router, and if one of the dogs eats this one, I'll be the exact same model the next day at Wal-Mart (and cheaper dog food for a while too).

Replace the old technology!

I had an older router and my wifi to my computer and streaming to my TV would keep dropping out; I blamed the cable company! I replaced the old router with the Netgear router and it seemed to have fixed the problem, I'm just sayin.....

Easy set up and strong signal

Had the router for a couple of weeks, replacing a n600 wireless router because we live in apartment. To much interference from other routers and walls. This new one helps quite a bit. Signal is a little stronger but now I have less lagging in games and movies. Works great with my tablets and phone too. Was very easy to set up, basically was plug and play.

ISP can't keep up with this router.

Excellent Router. So far My basement wifi went from 45%-68% signal strength Windows (WNDR4500)\nto 90% in the basement. (Nighthawk)Dining Room 100% Living Room 100%\nToo bad ISP can't keep up. But I am getting 117(wired)50-60(wireless) MBPS on Mediacom's Best in Clearlake, Ca. Region.\nThis is a pricey router, but it is well built. Unless this stops performing, I will be very happy with this router five years from now.

Easiest to install/use, no issues, and fastest!

This is my third Netgear router in a row and unless they drop the ball I will probably never switch. I have yet to have any problems or connection issues with any of them. I am a power-user when it comes to computers, but Netgear is completely plug and play. I have had belkin, cisco, and Linksys routers and all of them have had problems or just didn't plain work at all (Belkin). This router is super-fast with almost nil lag time (microseconds you won't even notice)! Combine the speed, reliability, and ease of install and there isn't a better router company out there right now. PS> Other than free beta-testing of video games, I have no affiliation with the electronics industry.

Superb WiFi Router - worth every penny!

After dealing with a half-dozen wimpy wireless routers this unit is a breath of fresh air. Easy to setup and ROCK SOLID. Forget having to reboot your router every few days - this thing never misses a beat. Noticably faster with mobile electronics with a longer range and better signal strength. Yes, it does cost more but reliability is worth it.\n\nGamers will drool over it. Technicians will rely on it. Videophiles will praise it. Mobile users will take it for granted ;-)\n\nYou'll be satisfied when family members stop complaining about the router locking up.\n\nWorks great with OpenDNS for extra Internet Safety.\n\nRB

Excellent to realize full bandwidth

I had trouble's achieving the full bandwidth thru comcast. I had comcast to my home several times, blaming them for the issues. Long story short, the problem was my brand new wireless router. Although a cheaper netgear, it just didn't perform well enough to get me the 50MB speed that comcast was promising. As soon as I plugged this in, my bandwidth jumped over 50MB where it was supposed to be. We stream netflix, while the kids play xbox and now notice not lagging or problems. Although a bit pricier than most, it was worth it to get the full bandwidth we were paying for from comcast. I would highly recommend for gamers and video streamers...

Great so far

I bought this router based on both professional and user reviews. Setup was easy. I get >28Mbps downloads on the desktop computer, which is connected via ethernet. My old router gave me less than half that speed on wi-fi. With the Nighthawk, my home wi-fi downloads are now at >25Mbps (using the 5GHz channel). Phones, Laptops, and Smart TV all work much faster. I'm very pleased.

awsome router

fastest router I've ever had excellent rane

Excellent power field

Am using one at home and one at another establishment. Gives excellent reception. Whereas I had to reboot my previous router occasionally, I have not had to with this big boy.

Good router

I bought different routers and returned because all of them doesn't meet my expectation. At last I spent more money to buy this product. It is a very good router.

awesome

Buy it this is the best purchase I have made in a long time. Simple to install and use. Best quality for your money

Easy to use & install

Excellent router!

SOLID! Amazing piece of hardware.

Ownership: 1 month.\n\nEasy web-based configuration with plenty of power-user options. 801.11ac is blazing fast compared to the older 802.11g. Wifi connections hold steady without dropping. Highly-rated online; just read the tech reviews elsewhere and you'll see.

A lot better than my old router. Good software.

Faster than old router. Doesn't need restarts.

Best router

Easy to set up and great range.

Expensive but it works

Have a ranch syle house. Router in basement at one end, smart TV in upstairs at other end of house.Netflicks is now in HD, internet is loads faster. Instructions are a bit confusing, partly my old XP computers fault. No problem setting up TV, lapptop and 2 tablets. Have not done software updates or set TV to dedicated band. Replaced a Linksys wrt54g that didnt like Charter. Only had a month. So far it is everything I need.

An excellent router

We bought a Sony Google TV in 2011 and recently it would not connect to the Internet. Sony thought our TV needed service (at our expense). We replaced an older Netgear router with the Nighthawk. We found that operating on WIFI alone (no ethernet cable attached) restored our TV's Internet connection. All has been working well since.

Excellent little device

Purchased at Walmart. 1/27/2014 $199.98\nThis device replaces a Cisco router.\n\nSet up for this device is extremely easy. It's very powerful device too. In fact, when it resets the reset signal is powerful enough to interfere with my over the air TV antenna. During normal operation though I've had no challenges with interference.\n\nThe app that you can download for your devices is very useful. You can do almost all of your router maintenance from the app. I don't have to log into the router via a webpage very often at all.\n\nThe media drive feature and the turbo transfer has been a little awkward set up and going. It "works", but it's just not as convenient as I would like.\n\nEvery once a while connection to the Internet gets intermittent and we have to reboot the router. However, that happens every month or so and it's not enough of an annoyance to significantly impact my rating.\n\nWe have 20+ devices that connect this particular router. My wife and I work at home via VPN connections. We have teenagers too that do a lot of video streaming. Monthly we push close to 100 GB of data through the router with no issues to speak of.\n\nWe had previously moved to Cisco because of some challenges with our previous routers from Netgear. However, this one seems to have won us back!

Fantastic Product

Really cool router..Excellent reception throughout the house even at the far corners far away from the router
