why different prices?

Ok... How or why is the Gerber gator cheaper than the junior version. Why are there two different prices on the bear grylls parang machete knife. I bought one from Wal-Mart yesterday for $35. I check your site out and you have the exact same knife for $35 and another worded different but for $28...? The specs are the same, length, weight, ect. If there is no diffetence, I would love to buy two of each. The parang (not the shorter one) and the Gerber. I can't find anyone to beat these prices even on eBay. They are at my local Wal-Mart in the display cases but they never have these in. Sorry this is long but some if this puzzles me. Thanks!

Answer : I bought gator myself a few months ago and it was cheaper than the junior and paid under 18.00 . only thing I figure is they had and overstock of the gator.

Answer : Hello, The Gerber Gator Machete Jr. is listed for $21 and the Gerber Gator Machete is listed for $23 on our website ( Additionally, the Gerber Bear Grylls Parang is listed for $43 on our website. We only have the regular size Parang and the Compact Parang (smaller one).

is it customary for the handle to brake under normal use.

Answer : Hello, This should not break under normal use. If you come across any issues, please email us at and we will take care of it. Sincerely, Gerber Gear

Answer : This unit is junk, don't waist your time. get the Bear Gilles version, you won't be unhappy. I cleared 4.17 Acres with one and it never let me down. Just sharpened it from time to time.

5star my review

It sliced though 2 inch young trees. No problem.. Cut though all shrubbery, thorns, making a path. The saw side worked great. Cut through 5inch fallen tree limb with angle chopping action. Took 5 cuts. I have many katanas and practice cutting. You have to cut at an angle and the blade stayed in perfect shape. Don't try to cut anything big straight across...angular works . For the price... I am amazed! Lee

He blade is flimsy but thats how machetes are supposed to be. The quality is great and i do recomend if your on a farm, hanging tree stands or puting in feeders( anything in that range) but really great for the price. Gerber did great once again

Very good weight. Comes with decent factory edge. Scabboard is very good. Very secure, restricts ability to draw quickly. Good handle grip & tether.

Best Machete

Best handle of any machete I have ever used.

Nice quality for the price.

Very happy with the Gerber Gator Machete. It's much better than I thought it would be, for the price.

Bought it for my husband he loves it

Sharp works great

Better Than an Ax

I bought this machette for just under $15, and it is worth every penny. I have been clearing out small trees and brush on my property, and this machette has been a beast at handling the job. Very well balanced and easy to swing. The blade is sharpe, but the thickness of the solid blade really improves the cutting power.

Best machete I have ever had. Very sharp and very durable. I highly recommend it.

So sharp it's scary!

Considering this tool cost $15, it has the sharpest blade I have ever owned on any implement! I have not yet used my machete, but I used a friend's, and it cut tree branches far better than my hatchet. That's why I decided I had to have one of these. I have read other reviews that said it doesn't hold up. I believe with proper care and resharpening, I will be able to more than get my money's worth from this, hopefully for several years. And the saw teeth on the spine are a great added bonus.

slice, dice, chop

this is for my grandson for Christmas so he will quit borrowing my other one. I have had one for 6 years or so and there aint no finer machete. the blade is thick and heavy enough and has an ergonomic handle that wont rattle your teeth when you whack that 3" sapling. plus, the saw is bad, bad and keeps you from having to fire up the stihl except for the bigger stuff. unbeatable price, this thing rivals sliced bread for innovation.

Gerber Gator Machete

It's not too small but it;s not too big is right there in the perfect size, it have great construction with good materials that are durable and have a great balance.

I always expect the best from Gerber. I opted for the shorter blade for some close quarter Privet hedge clearing on the back side of fencing. Walmart was quick on delivery as usual and the machete was package well, no shipping issues.

Outstanding deal.

Best deal around.

Great for yard or camping.

Good edge out of package. Lanyard gives good safe grip for using either side. Heavy duty sheath.

Nothing Special

I bought this for clearing trails for ATV riding. Its nice because it comes with a nice durable sheath and also can be used to saw. The straight edge is not very sharp but gets the job done. The handle has good gripping area along with a strap to go around your wrist. For 18$ its a good buy! I was just disappointed with the not so sharp straight edge. Once I sharpen it should be fine!

This is not a full tang handle.

I think the designer should have extended the blade the full length of the handle. This is called "full tang". They don't run the blade full length to act as a shock absorber. This will shorten the life of the machete. When that happens to my machete, I will rework the tang and handle (by splitting the handle and welding on a tang extension). The machete, after sharping, works well. It is a good price and quality materials are used. I have 3 other machetes but this is the first with the sawback. This saw actually may need to sharpen it. Read up on saw sharpening if you are not familiar with that.

Great Machete

This is very well made its worth twice the price ..

Tough enough for the job!

The main blade is not really sharp. The saw is real sharp. But you can sharpen it easy enough. I will buy another.

Great for the price

No cheap flimsy feel. This machete is solid. I use it to clear trail in the woods behind my house and it works perfect for what I wanted. Sharp right out of the box. Cuts through 2" trees/branches with one slice. The saw is a nice touch too - although not too practical. But it's better than nothing. All in all this is a great machete for the price. Especially for clearing brush an making trails. Also, it will make for a good back-up weapon when you run out of ammo in the zombie apocalypse

Average at best

I had it for only a day... the blade is pretty good but doesn't hold an edge at all. the sheath broke within the first 10 minutes that I had it. Not what I have come to expect from gerber... work on it guys.. I replaced it with the Bear Gyles version, best thing I ever did... Bear, thanks again. You don't have to hardly do any work. you can let the weight of the blade do the work... holds an edge for 3-4 hours before having to re-sharpen. I'm clearing 4 acers and none of the other machetes I tried lasted even for a day before breaking...

Great product for the price

The machete is built well and should hold up for many uses. I cut a few small trees with the saw blade and it worked fine. The carrying case will not attach directly to a molle pack without help.
